The morning was cool, the sun peaked over the hilltops, dew covered the grass. Alphonse lifted himself from his bed lazily and rubbed his eyes yawning. He pushed his hand against his forehead and rested trying to get ready to get up. The bed creaked as Alphonse swung himself around to the edge of the bed and pushed himself off, he stumbled and continued out to his living room. Alphonse picked up a cold bucket of water and went outside, a morning breeze greeted him as he opened the door, the rising glared into his eyes and warmed his cheeks with her warm hands. He took the bucket of water and poured it over his head, a large shiver went down his body. Alphonse shook his now wet hair and let it hit him in his face; he was now fully conscious. "Now that felt good!" He said with a smile on his face standing proudly in front of his house, if anyone had passed by they would of taking him as a fool: a man standing proudly and wet in front of his house in nothing but his pants. "I better get read to set off then." He said as he walked back into his house.
Alphonse spun around his ninjato and sheathed, doing the same with his gun and holstering it. He slipped his unfinished gun, some parts, some tools, a sack of bullets, and a filled gunpowder flask into his robe and picked up his unfinished book. Alphonse closed the door behind reluctantly and turned back to the house, "I'll be back someday," he assured. He turned around and took in the scent of the forest, he looked down at the path before, shaded with trees, small spots of sun peaking through into the ground. And so I'm off. Alphonse marched forth on the path, heading towards the village center of Maplebrook.

Kaen had spent the night sleeping on the side of the road. It didn't interest him one bit to go deeper, he didn't want to have a run in with any creatures, especially bears and wolves. His life seem to drag out quite quickly nowadays, how many years since his birth? Was his family still alive? Was he still being hunted and the like? So many questions, but not enough answers! How can someone like him find what he needed, there was no way...
When dawn finally gripped the ever forsaken Aiergan, he cocked his head at the sound of what appeared to be that of a person. Who was it that would travel this road so early in the day? Whatever, it didn't concern him. At least not yet.

Alphonse had his eyes closed, his head lifted a little, enjoying the morning sunshine. He opened his eyes and stared into the waking sky, pink and orange clouds drifting overhead, a breeze blew pass Alphonse and also took in a breath and shivered. He looked over to the left of the road and saw a cloud of fog rolling down a hill in his direction then turned back and looked down at the road stopping suddenly and and taking in a large breath of air. Alphonse looked down at the man laying on the side of the road, surprised that someone would be there. He looked down at his right arm which had reached over and attached itself to his gun in his holster. Alphonse looked back over at the man laying on the ground and saw that he was moving and let out a sigh of relief.
"Um... hello there!" he said unsurely as he started walking towards the man. "Are you okay?" Alphonse said, now a bit more nervous, for he wasn't used to strangers. From what he could tell he was just fine, but it seemed a bit odd to be laying on the side of the road. He could be just enjoying himself, but it seems like an odd place to be doing so.

Are you okay? That phrase had almost made him laugh, if not for the truth behind it all. He wasn't okay, he wasn't much of a human anymore, than again he never was. This life had done nothing, but makes things complicated, but this boy didn't or wouldn't ever understand. For him, he would die a normal death, never to once again walk among the living, confused and dazed as he was. Wait...was this guy even human? Like hell he cares.
Position his hand behind, he pushed himself up with the tree's support. It would have appeared as if his knees were locked, like that of an injured man. It didn't help for his own sluggishness. He knew in time. that he needed to keep things easy and not so stressed. Straining the body was bad for health and life, his pessimistic attitude didn't help much. After gently patting away some dirt that had collected over the night onto his pants and coat, did he dare talk to the curious stranger.
"I am fine...sorry to obstruct your view," he spoke with a monotone, careful to keep any hint of emotion from escaping. As far as he knew...he didn't know anything about this guy. Instead of trying to carry on the conversation he snatched up his blade from beside the trunk of the tree, carefully laid out to his right (when he was resting).

Alphonse detached his hand from his gun and carefully watched the man help himself up from the ground and against the tree. He examined him thoroughly; he was a built man with a sword, a cold and emotionless with almost made Alphonse feel sad, he had an eye patch that covered his right eye, and altogether he was an intimidating man, but Alphonse saw him differently that most others would. His cold face probably meant he's trying to hide his emotions, or his a cold blooded killer, and since he wasn't dead yet the man must be hiding his emotions, or even could have been through something tragic. "Oh... okay then." Alphonse paused for a second, staring at him with sympathy in his eyes, then continued on.
After passing the man by a few feet Alphonse stopped himself and turned around. "Say, would you... like to come to town with me? My friends are trowing me a little going-away party at the Black Raven in Maplebrook, you can come and join us," Alphonse said in a nice yet strong voice trying to convince the man to come with him. He felt that the man needed some cheering up, or at least a good ale to loosen him up a little. Alphonse adjusted the book in his left hand and waited for the swordsman to answer.

Kaen would have liked nothing to do with this man, but he knew better than to pass a free meal. He hadn't been able to find any job lately. He didn't care or mind the man's purpose for his travel and didn't care to get any closer towards him. No matter what, one of them are going to end up dead.
"Alright, can't say I've been to a party for awhile now," he responded, truth be told his last party was at the time he tried to get away from the fort.

Alphonse's face lit up with joy and accomplishment at the swordsman response. He smiled at the man and said, "Well then we better get moving! We don't want to be late now do we?" Alphonse started to turn back around when he suddenly remembered something. "By the way, what's your name stranger?" he asked the swordsman. Alphonse thought that if he was going to be traveling with him the least he could know is his name.

"You can call me Kaen, names are just something to address another, so you?" Kaen asked, without hinting any care in the world. He walked in line with this man, not daring to trudge any closer than needed. It wasn't like he hated this guy, he simply didn't want to know him. Solitude had done its work, leaving him unable to trust others.

Alphonse didn't like the man's voice, now he noticed that he talked in the sam cold monotone voice without change. It felt as if all the happiness and colors around the swordsman fell around him into a pit of no return. "'Kaen', well then..." he said turning back around and starting off down the path again. "My name his Alphonse, you can call me Al," he said trying to push back the shadow of despair trailing Kaen away from him and himself.
"So Kaen, where..." he noticed that the swordsman was behind, probably not trusting the young scholar armed with a gun and a sword. Alphonse turned around with out slowing down and started walking backwards, as he liked to do so often when he was thinking since walking backwards made him focus more and therefore helped him think more clearly. Alphonse continued, "Where are you from? Or might I ask where you might be traveling to? I live just down the road," he said, pointing past Kaen, "Not but a mile from here." Alphonse could tell it was probably be hard to get this man to open up, but if there was one word that defined Alphonse, that would be "stubborn", or as he would say "persistent and determined".

"My birthplace has long been insignificant," Kaen answered the question with a slight forceful tone. How can he find within himself to forgive the fate that his parents had allowed or rather forced onto him. Deep inside the wound had festered and grew, he cannot forget.
"As for my destination, I have none, surviving is my main concern," he said, now calming down his voice once again. This man, Alphonse, had really struck a nerve that not many have bothered. The interaction with this stranger was unique compared to the others throughout the years.

Alphonse gave a light smile, "I guess you don't want to talk about it then," he said in a friendly tone, still trying to battle off his depressing, and now bit angry, attitude. "So what, you're a wander? No reason to travel, merely see what happens to you and hope you survive then, eh?" Alphonse said a bit jokingly and impersonally, sort of regretting it because of the tone the swordsman had before.
"Sorry if I'm being a bit impersonal," Alphonse said in an apologetic voice. He swung back around and continued down the path, thinking of something he could say to Kaen. A question for him popped into his mind and he turned his head slightly towards his right and asked in a serious tone, "What is your purpose, your reason, in life?" He knew he had asked a very open and philosophical question, but he could tell the swordsman didn't want to talk about personally related things.

Kaen laughed, it had been so long since he had a laugh and this one just seemed to come from no where. Reason? Why need a reason? Isn't it enough to just keep living?
"Let us hurry, I'm sure your friends will be worried if you are late," Kaen responded. He ignored the question for many reasons, some even he wasn't sure of. That question really hit him hard, he felt a discomfort that just can't seem to be erased.

OoC: "discomfort that just can't seem to be erased", mission accomplished.
IC: Alphonse nodded, being a bit confused. "Uh... ya, I guess you're right." He hadn't expected to hear the swordsman to laugh, in fact, it was the very least he would expect from a man such as himself. He might be nervous, thats the only reason I can think why he would laugh. Or he could just be some sort of maniac... A few buildings could be seen on the road ahead, and soon a church and some shops: thy had reached Maplebrook. Alphonse gave a quiet laugh. "Well then, I guess we're here! Time sured passed by quickly with someone else to travel with," he said turning his head to Kaen and smiling.
