Splintered shields and broken bones
Piercèd hearts and shattered souls
The shadowed light fills men with dread
From the elden kind, shall come your dead

Early History
- Humans first came to the land of Carr about 4000 years ago, presumably from across the ocean. Towns, cities, and finally nations sprang up over the next couple hundred years, It is unknown exactly when it occurred, but eventually the population began noticing some of their members were different. They had developed power reaching supernatural levels. Whether this ability had always been among the population is not known. Normal citizens, fearful of the others, dubbed them Aiergan, coming from the ancient work for forsaken. The Aiergans were both hated and revered. After a time, they stayed almost completely away from the normal humans. Strangely, rumors began circulating that they were in fact immortal after an Aiergan who was presumed dead appeared to a farmer. This was never proved however and was probably the result of the drunken man's wild imagination. 1500 years after the landing, when many nations had risen and fallen through the passage of time, a group of Aiergans attacked and captured the capital of the strongest nation at that time. Humans could not defeat and win back the city, even with other races on their side. A year after the capture, still more Aiergans arrived at the scene, this time to help the humans. After a long and bloody battle, the humans triumphed. They called the Aiergan survivors of the battle, Ælran. Those who helped were welcomed back into the society, but the others were executed. Some superstitious people believe that this event created the first Oblivains, though it's very likely that these "creatures" don't even exist.
The Imperial Wars
- A treaty called the Peace of Dian affected the world probably more than any other document in existence. The Peace was created after a series of wars which lasted over 400 years, beginning about 3245 AL (After Landing). It is unknown exactly how they began, but most historians believe that it was first caused over a minor territorial dispute in the country of Dreles, what is now Idris. The wars broke up and joined the nations multiple times, leaving the economy of the lands and health of the people in terrible condition. In the year 3470, about 230 years after the war began, a feudal lord of a lesser nation known as Rolan Anath rose through the ranks up to a general. He led his small army through the lands and became the first king of Anthanar, which then only encompassed the northernmost part of the north continent to the middle of Rodan. Nevertheless, his descendants were nearly as great rulers as himself, and they too were able to conquer the whole north continent. In 3570, the king who came to be known as Jonnen of the Sorrows set forth a siege on the relatively peaceable nation of Hakan, and from there, the rest of the south. Orond and Llyr ceased their own fighting and formed a truce. What happened thereafter was later christened The Last War.
The Last War and the Peace of Dian
- Solan the Wise, king of the country of Idris, had been preparing an unlikely army for his entire reign. The men and women he called Ælran weren’t uncommon in any nation, but Solan was the first to create an entire army from their numbers. After thirty years of constant bombardment from Anthanarians at every open boarder, the empire was stopped dead in its tracks by the new enemy, but not for long. Not ten years after it was stopped, the empire attacked again with its own Ælran. 387 years after the wars first began, they were halted entirely by an Ælran, Bryce Lenden, who was an adviser to the king of Llyr. According to him, the wars were only being prolonged by his kind, so if they were sent to their own land, the wars would cease. A council of the nations was called, and they liked the idea, but not the means. The emperor was the first to commit mass genocide. He continued to recruit the Ælran and then led them to certain death. Horrified, Bryce called a meeting with the other high-ranking Ælran. After months of intense study and discussion, they created the Peace of Dian. Every nation was to surrender their Ælran to already established forts where they would study for ten years before being killed. Why they decided on doing this is one of the greatest mysteries of history. Perhaps they too believed the myth that their kind was immortal, or maybe they knew something that the others didn't. Nevertheless, the Peace is still functioning today, 177 years after it was created. There has not been a war among humans since...
